Comment Notification

Hey, if folks want to get notified whenever a comment is posted, there's a link on the sidebar to join a Yahoo group set up for just that purpose, OR, just click here. (Also, for those who are so inclined, you can get a RSS feed of the comments from the Yahoo Group as well.)

Thanks for nailing this down! Let's see if this works...

It's been working for me the past couple days, which is nice. And the cool thing is, it keeps the header, so you know who posted the comment just looking at the "from" field in your email client (just like if you were getting the Blogger notifications to yourself)!

Yeah, but one thing... when the feathers start flying (owl feathers, that is), it'll be hard to tell WHAT post the comment goes for, but I suppose we could keep that in mind when posting. STILL, though, it IS cool.

Hm, yeah -- that is one pain, but at least the "owl-stretching time" link at the bottom (at least in the ones I get... which is kind of odd since I thought I set both the gmail account at Yahoo and my own personal yahoo profile to not convert to HTML, but whatchagonnado) links to the direct post, rather than just the blog in general... that'd be kind of annoying, heh.

It'd be cool if we could, like, pipe the Subject of the Post into the Subject line or something, but I don't know how to do that/if it's possible.

I've always used the "Owl-Stretching Time" link at the bottom of the comment to take me to the comment, which means you're on the right page for that post. Once you get used to doing it that way, it works very well. (This is how I've kept up with OST almost from the very beginning.)

Also, there is an RSS feed directly from blogger available over in the sidebar which I know at least one person already uses. I don't think it includes comments, just the posts.

I'll add the "Comment Notification" link to the sidebar this evening when I get home, BTW.

Yep! I poked around and figured out how to get it in there! And yeah, I actually use the Blogger RSS, but it's just for posts, no comments. (Although with the email notification, though, that's not really needed, at least for me, but hey..8)

Ah, this is cool. There's a Firefox extension called "InfoRSS" that will put an RSS feed into the status bar at the bottom of the browser. I just downloaded it and set OST as my only RSS feed, and bingo... new stories posted here now show up in the browser status bar! :)

Any of y'all running Firefox should grab this extension.

Cool! I've just downloaded that. I've just been using Live Journal's RSS Feed Thingy (for, well, a ton of stuff, heh), but it might be cool to experiment with an RSS Feed Browser Dealy like everyone else has..8)

(You know, like in Safari, which for some reason I don't use..8)

I don't use Firefox, but Maxthon has an automatic RSS reader built in. I'll experiment with it...

That was mostly directed to others who might be reading...

I never liked the idea of using a separate RSS reader, and there are VERY few sites I want to be notified of every time they update, anyway, but... this is very cool. :)

Hmm, I just noticed Firefox has some kind of RSS "Live Bookmark" thing built in, too. Erm, oops. :D But, I like the way infoRSS works so far, so I still recommend it for anyone who might be interested.
