"Please don't let the dog chew me..."
They're here! Honestly. IF WE CAN PUT A MAN ON THE MOON-- *WHY* is there still auto-theft?? Well, the Canadians have done it again: BAIT CAR. The cops can track it, find it, pull it over, turn the engine off if they need to, and even video the whole thing from the inside, WITH some fascinating audio (at least the perps have some decent music taste). If the kids bail (the cops can lock the doors remotely-- not sure why they don't always) and get away, they can broadcast it all on the six o'clock news, where they are identified by callers-in.
The cops have also bait-car'd ATV's and watercraft, too.
In one video, a guy is busted with a "friend's" PS2 in a backpack. Check out the games he stole-- GT3, and GTA3, Grand Theft Auto III! Who says video games don't lead to crime? Although, I suspect that the crack pipe he had on him had a wee bit more to do with it.
Download ALL the videos on that site. I LOVE this. FINALLY! But... is it "Big Brother"? Some good discussion on that here (read the comments at the bottom of that page).

Um, dude, these have been around for several years in the States.
But the videos sound like a hoot... will check those out from home. :)
The phrase "Bait Car" makes me think of one of those deep sea angler fish (I think that's the one), where they have the dangling bait off the thing in front of their mouth, only with a car, where, I dunno, the thieves drive into the monster-mouth. I'm not sure exactly how this would work, though, but I am still thinking of it.
That visual sounds like a cartoon waiting to happen. :D
What, a jail-bait car, maybe?
It's a car to attract thieves, only the car is underage?
