Archie McPhee's is the best place on earth. If you ever make it up to Seattle, you _must_ go. Bringing an extra, empty suitcase with you is also advised. I tend to go there every few months and spend way too much money. Especially now that they've split off into two (next-door-to-each-other) stores, one for novelties, and one for Housewares. They are just loaded with the neatest stuff on Earth.
That said, they've got a thing for meat, bacon especially. Which is awesome and understandable, since Bacon is one of the Kings Of Food. Also, Steak, which they also have as a recurring theme.
I've been getting Archie McPhee catalogs in the mail for over ten years now... you can spot stuff from there all over our house. :D (And even in our camper!)
Yeah, if I ever get to Seattle, I fully intend to make a pilgrimage to the store itself.
Good article! It makes me sad that I run with a crowd that appreciates this, while nearly everyone else I know couldn't care less. For instance, I went to a lot of trouble to locate one of these for my niece, and he wouldn't even use it! Imagine! The nerve...
I either have or used to have a hard-copy of that article... actually, I think I've got one at work, too. Still, though, as awesome as the website is, it cannot compare to the actual store. They've got so much random and awesome stuff. I got a Elvis-Meets-Nixon snowglobe that I (sadly) gave away. They also have hand molds for rubber gloves. It's awesome.
Also, if you haven't seen these, here are some of their commercials, which do/have indeed aired on Seattle TV. Unfortunately, I don't think they have any of the pre-More ones (though, maybe that's "Tour"?), because one ended with a hick-Ronnie-Dobbs-Type coming in and going "Y'all gots any WHISKEY!?!?" and the McPhee staff shouts "NEXT DOOR!", since they used to be next door to a liquor store (which they bought out and converted to More Archie's, so the ad doesn't air/make sense anymore).
I sent this link to my brother for my niece. He wrote back that he was already too worried about his baby and his dogs getting along. He doesn't want to "label" his daughter as "food" (after all, he feeds the dogs those "It's bacon!!!" beggin' strips, which on second thought, makes this a pretty logical concern).

That's the West Coast for you. They're nuts. I love them. East Coast'ies are SOO all about the Benjamins. Bah.
Archie McPhee is giving stuff away?? Why wasn't I informed?!?
This is a very cool article about the guy who founded Archie McPhee's... I haven't read far enough to find out where the name comes from, though. :)

Hah! The TV ads are cool. :D I loved the "Mysterioso" one especially.
