Maunsell towers

WHOA!

A friend at work sent me this link to a page about the Maunsell towers, a serires of three "sea forts" (only two remain) off the coast of England, built in WWII. They're named after their designer, Guy Maunsell.

Another on the long list of places I'd love to visit...! LOTS of pics at the first link.

Wow, this is so cool. This looks like something out of Myst or something. I have heard of the pirate radiostations being on these things out at sea but have never seen pictures of them.

Same here! I'd always pictured them looking more like oil derricks... nothing as cool as this.

Ha! Great pics! What a dream of mine that would be, to have working for one of those pirate stations back in the day. :)

I never realized they used such large ships... or rather, small ships, but I expected more of a smallish boat.
