Fripping Microsoft!

first they had Brian Eno composing the start-up sounds for Windows 95 (just how much money would he have made in royalties alone on that, I wonder!), and now it seems they have Eno's old friend and collaborator involved in sounds for the next version of Windows...

Robert Fripp - Behind the scenes at Windows Vista recording session

I look forward to them eventually getting Adrian Belew to make them some noises too. (trivia point: the code name of Photoshop 4 was "Big Electric Cat" after the Belew track).

regarding that Eno/Win 95 thing, I just found this great quote from the man himself..

"The thing from the agency said 'We want a piece of music that is inspiring, universal, blah- blah, da-da-da, optimistic, futuristic, sentimental, emotional,' this whole list of adjectives, and then at the bottom it said 'and it must be three and a quarter seconds long','' Eno told the San Francisco Chronicle.

"I thought this was so funny and an amazing thought to actually try to make a little piece of music. It's like making a tiny little jewel."

Oh, now that's very cool RE: Fripp.

And the Eno story makes me chuckle... I can totally hear him saying that. :D
